I had a conversation with a friend of mine the other day. He told me someone asked him once why he doesn't cuss. He said to them, "Well, the bible does say that we shouldn't but that's not why I don't necessarily. For one, I think it sounds ignorant and not very intelligent. But more than that, I want every word that comes out my mouth to be pleasing to God.
Why do we choose not to use bad language? Why do we choose not have sex before marriage? Why do we choose not to do the things that Christians aren't "supposed" to do? Is it because we are told NOT to? Well, if that is the reason, that's called religion! Or, are we choosing not to because we want to please our Father in heaven? Now that is what a relationship with Jesus Christ is like.
The heart of Christ is the unconditional love shown by an act of our own will as it lines up with His. A choice to DO mercy as an act of love for God.
