I used to think that being a pastor or
being called by God as a prophet was a really big calling. As I work as a
janitor at a large church, taking out garbage and cleaning pews, I thought what
kind of calling is this? See, there is a lot of truth in the phrase "the
grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." We tend to think
that God's hand must be on that prophet or that pastor to have such a high
calling.
Do you think that some of us might be
called to do something that we absolutely hate to do? Or maybe you don't think that your capable of doing that to which you are called to do. Or, maybe you simply think its just to darn hard or uncomfortable. Look at Jonah's calling to preach to Nineveh. Instead of obeying, Jonah ran the opposite way running from God because he didn't think God's people deserved to have the chance to repent. Or Jeremiah's calling to confront
Judah about idolatry, but he didn't think he was worthy or capable. Look at what God wanted Hosea to do, go marry a prostitute to show the Lord's unconditional love for His people of Israel. But Hosea had to put up with a cheating wife and getting pregnant by other men!
Maybe you feel like God isn't answering your prayers on what He wants you to do. Assuming that you have no unconfessed sin that you need to repent of, maybe you are just not listening. Or maybe He just wants you to enter a season of closeness with Him and this maybe your call just to grow more intimate with Him for a time.
God is calling me right now in my life
to lead some people who I am struggling with. I don't like this
position He has put me in. But I'm starting to embrace it and allow God to use
me how He wants to use me.
Let's face it and just be real with ourselves,
we tend to think some callings are higher than others. More spiritual than
others like maybe somehow God has more favor on that person by using them in
that calling.
Can I just say something?..... THAT'S
WRONG!!! And we need to repent if that is our thoughts! We need to be careful
to discredit our callings like that! God has called you to do something and it
may not just be one calling. It may be a few things He wants you to do. No calling is greater or higher than another.
In 1 Corinthians chapter 12 and 13 Paul says there isn't one spiritual gift better than another. Isn't it true about callings as well? The greatest gift or calling is one you obey that God tells you to do.
So, what is the greatest calling? What
are considered higher callings? The greatest and highest
calling is the one God has for you! I've said it many times....the safest
place to be is in the center of His will! I heard a story one time about a family that God called to another country as missionaries. It was a place that they could be killed for their faith. The family started to get so concerned for their safety that they headed back home to the United States on a plane. The plane crashed! They died! They died because they went outside of God's will. They were not covered by His hedge of protection. Be sure that you are obeying His call.
Oswald Chambers said in his devotional book "My Utmost For His Highest", "If you debate for even one second when God has spoken, it is all over for you. Never start to say, “Well, I wonder if He really did speak to me?” Be reckless immediately— totally unrestrained and willing to risk everything— by casting your all upon Him."
If your struggling with hearing God,
maybe it's because He is calling you to a place you don't necessarily want to go.
Maybe it's something you can't see yourself doing or you think it's too hard or
maybe you just simply don't want it. Surrender that thought and say, God, I
repent! Have your way with me. It's your life anyway, not mine.
Whatever the calling is..... IT'S YOURS
AS A GIFT! He gave it to you. Embrace it!
